Curriculum

Ziauddin Medical University has introduced an innovative curriculum that has achieved the standards established through the regulations of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. The University is accredited to award degrees. The main focus of the College is on instruction related to the normal functions of the body. Strong emphasis is also placed on mechanisms of disturbed physiological functions including malabsorption and inflammation.

The Basic Health Science program is highly integrated with the disciplines of Community Health Sciences, and Clinical Sciences. The Basic Health Sciences program includes the study of human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. Each faculty member within the three departments provides instruction in a specific system. Students consequently achieve a comprehensive education and understanding of complex physiological phenomena and are well equipped to solve challenging problems.

The Community Health Sciences curriculum is organized in a modular format. Available modules include Biostatics, Epidemiology, Primary Health Care technologies, Immunization, Nutrition, Biomedical Ethics, and Research Methodology.

The sequencing of modules of instruction within the curriculum is determined by the focus of the degree for which it has been established. Students at the University apply their education to solve real world problems. The Departments of Community Health Sciences and Family Medicine, together with a community-based NGO, has established a primary health care program in Sikanderabad, a squatter settlement adjacent to the University. The program serves as a valuable community based site for practical education and training.
