Ziauddin Medical University is named for Dr. Lt. Col. Sir Ziauddin Ahmed, a visionary who sought to create a college for the training of physicians and health care professionals. Although his dream of creating a medical school at Aligarh Muslim University was not fulfilled during his lifetime, his goal was achieved through the dedicated efforts of others to establish the Medical University.
Ziauddin Medical University was founded in 1995 as a nonprofit private university for the training of healthcare professionals in Pakistan. The University welcomed its first academic class of 55 students the following year after obtaining approval from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The Medical College remains dedicated to providing community oriented medical education and training to qualified students.
Admission to the Medical College is highly competitive. Graduates with a good academic background in a relevant discipline and who are committed to research and interested in earning a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree are encouraged to apply for one of the available courses of study. Students may elect to pursue the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in basic sciences, or the degree of Master of Philosophy in basic sciences, physical therapy, medical technology, or microbiology. The University also offers the degrees of Doctorate in Medicine (MD) and Master of Science (MS) to medical school graduates who have completed the Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) program.
